Ok. Wow. This really grabbed my interest until I saw who directed it. Just like when Alone in the Dark came out I knew it would be horrible since Uwe Boll's House of the Dead was not even watchable, but being a huge Christian Slater fan I went and saw it anyways. Luckily Green River Killer didn't cost me anything but time, which is still very valuable.
After Ulli Lommel's Zodiac Killer (the worst film ever to get released by a well-known company - Lions Gate) I refused to waste a single minute watching anything else he has ever done and/or will ever do. But the catch-22 is he keeps making "true" crime movies which I find addicting. Now I have to refrain myself from watching his take on the B.T.K. Killer.
Anyways, I had heard that this movie was actually decent compared to his Zodiac Killer. But decent for me meant giving it a whole one star instead of zero stars. That one star was because he managed to include footage of the real killer, and attempted to make the movie visually interesting. The editing style looked like it was trying to borrow from both The Limey and especially Man on Fire, and perhaps Natural Born Killers. But it fails, of course. It is just plain terrible. The editor, called Xgin, appears to be some guy, maybe kid, that just started using non-linear editing equipment and thinks speeding and slowing down images and blurring them together is cool. But he has absolutely no sense of style and usually no reason for doing this. It was probably just to hide the very slow moving, horribly shot movie. The acting is pretty damn bad, too. Most of the actors force over-the-top generic performances and the lead (who according to IMDB has never acted before) is the best, but I still wouldn't even call his performance decent. For the most part it looked like the actors had no direction, plus they sucked anyways.
Another thing the director does is combine the movie with the real Green River Killer who killed at least 48 women over the span of 20 years. He is very calm, which is very scary. This was the one good thing. But Lommel then combines the real killer's voice over and goes back and forth from the killer's voice over (which is very calm and polite) to the actor, which is talking very mean, low, and trying to be scary. THIS DOES NOT WORK.
This movie is just more shit and like Zodiac Killer, I recommend not ever watching it. But between the two, yes, this one is better. And it's still complete garbage.
